Alex Pall and Andrew Taggart, otherwise known as the successful duo The Chainsmokers, had a heart-to-heart conversation with Mathias Rosenzweig on July 28, 2016. It’s not just their EDM beat that reels people in. Both artists bring a passion to their music that is palpable.
Pall and Taggart met in 2012 and immediately got to work. The skills and experiences they possessed were completely complementary to each other. Even with this perfect pairing, they steadfastly logged long hours bringing about their unique sound and producing concepts they could call their own. However, creating music was far more than just a job. It was a journey of exploration and expression for them. Pall said, “We were both very observant about what was going on around us and who was killing it and what was working and what wasn’t.” They used these observations to perfect their sound and to make it their own. While they found success relatively quickly, they were in this for the long haul, uncovering various nuances of The Chainsmokers’ identity along the way. This journey of discovery led them to work with other artists, giving voice to their music, stirring up emotions and tapping into feelings.
Alex Pall isn’t satisfied with what is normal for today’s EDM industry. He and Taggart aim to lead the crowd. While pleased with seeing international attention to The Chainsmokers via Instagram, they want to give everyone a chance to hear their music. They continue to find ways to push the envelope and be on the cutting edge of their genre. They team up with songwriters to compose their own lyrics, many of which reflect their own personal experiences. Taggart sings on several songs which gives even more authenticity to their work. Superficial isn’t a word these artists know. They dig deep and offer up what only they can give; they offer up themselves. The Chainsmokers have discovered that being real is what appeals to the young, the old and those in between.
