Interesting Insight into Julia Jackson

Julia Jackson is the youngest daughter of Jess Jackson, the founder of Jackson Family wines. Julia has fond memory at a young age of picking and sorting grapes. Julia was brought up in the wine industry. Her family was into wine before she was born. Today, she holds the position of the spokesperson of Cambria Estates. Her position is seen as being representative of the next generation of wine lovers.

Her Upbringing

Julia was born in 1988 in San Francisco, CA. Her father used to make his kids pick and sort grapes in the hot summer weather. She says that he did this in an effort to teach his kids the importance of hard work. She never forgot those lessons.

What She Thinks About the Current Generation of Wine Loves

Most millennials today are disloyal to brands. They tend to be swayed by trends when picking their wine. When Julia was asked about this behavior, she said Jackson Family wines would stick to proven methods that helped her father succeed. She says that they are not interested in pursuing short-term trends that appeal to the millennials.

Some of Her Initiatives

Inspired by her mother, Julia founded Cambria Seeds of Empowerment in 2014. This program is designed to recognize the efforts of “Warrior Women.” The program awards $100,000 every year in grants to nonprofits that share the vision of the program. Julia Jackson feels there are not enough role models for young girls who wish to succeed. Thus, her program is intended to celebrate and recognize women who have overcome hardships to succeed.

Julia says her family’s business epitomizes the ideals of Cambria Seeds of Empowerment. In the male-dominated wine business, women have to act other than themselves to succeed. However, their family business has been able to thrive while staying true.

Mexico and Media

Mexico’s media was traditionally dominated by its Televisa group with firm links to its long-governing Institutional Revolutionary Party – PRI. Yet the loosening of PRI’s hold has led to greater editorial independence through the emergence of competitors. This Televisa once had virtual monopolies in Mexican TV and is still a major supplier of programs in Spanish. New players – like the Azteca group and its foreign satellite or cable operators – have recently mounted assaults on Televisa’s dominance. This radio market is quite large, with approximately 1,400 local and regional spots and numerous major station-owning groups. A few high-powered stations on the northern border have beamed into lucrative U.S. markets.

Mexican newspapers reflect varied political views as sensationalism characterizes the best-selling dailies. Reporters Without Borders – or RSF – describes Mexico as the hemisphere’s most dangerous country for the media. Since 2000, multitudes of journalists have been murdered there. Drug cartels and corrupt officials are traced in most crimes of violence against these journalists, which nearly always go unpunished, according to watchdogs.

Mexico’s one of Latin America’s greatest internet markets. 51 million internet users existed in mid-2015 – a 41-percent penetration rate since. Facebook’s the most popular social network there.
